Speaker: Building Research Culture in Non-Research Oriented Environments
Maria Mercedes T. Rodrigo is Professor at the Department of Information Systems and Computer Science of the Ateneo de Manila University. She is also the head of the Ateneo Laboratory for the Learning Sciences. Her fields of specialization are technology in education, artificial intelligence in education, and learning analytics. Maria is the President-elect of the Asia Pacific Society for Computers in Education. Maria was the recipient of the Distinguished Researcher Award by the Asia-Pacific Society for Computers in Education - APSCE, in 2021.

Professor Hutchinson is the Director of the ARC Centre of Excellence for Nanoscale BioPhotonics (CNBP), an Australian Research Council Future Fellow and a Professor within the Adelaide Medical School at the University of Adelaide. Mark is also President of Science and Technology Australia, the peak body in Australia that represents 90,000 scientists. At the age of 23, Nicole left her home in Switzerland to travel to Nepal, where she met a group of young children who lived, slept and earned their living by begging on the streets of Kathmandu.
On September 1, 1993, she moved into a shelter that had room for six children made possible by the financial support of family and friends.This laid the foundation for Nawa Asha Griha, which means “Home of New Hopes”.
Nepal has been her home ever since and every day she sees the children grow into strong, independent and friendly adults. This gives her hope that the next generation of Nepal will be able to solve many of today’s problems.

Speaker: Through the Bushes and the Trees: Ideas on Dealing with Obstacles and Irritations on the Path to Success
lectures on business leadership, technology, international security, and terrorism, and is a subject matter expert.
He consults with both Filipino and multi-national companies, and Philippine government, on high-level security matters, including infrastructure development projects, critical infrastructure protection and cyber security matters. Dr Shalini Arunogiri is a consultant addiction psychiatrist and clinician-researcher. She is Deputy Clinical Director at Turning Point, a national addiction treatment centre, where she leads a team of over 50 clinicians.

There are currently about 200 children living in the home and an additional 250 children from the poorest backgrounds can attend school at Nawa Asha Griha every day.
The stronger ones help the weaker ones, the older ones take care of the younger ones in the home. Some of the children come to Nawa Asha Griha as babies and stay until they are about 20 years old. Most of the children do not know their exact date of birth.
Thanks to an “Ämtliplan” the children are integrated in the daily structure. The chores include, for example, washing dishes, mopping or cleaning the common rooms.
